Curriculum

Meringandan State School is implementing the Australian Curriculum in English, Mathematics, Science, History and Geography.  Our curriculum also covers the key learning areas of The Arts,  Languages Other Than English - Japanese (Years 6 and 7), Technology and Health and Physical Education.

Within all subjects of the Australian Curriculum there is a focus on developing seven general capabilities of students. The seven General Capabilities are

  • Literacy
  • Numeracy
  • Information and communication (ICT) competence
  • Creative and critical thinking
  • Ethical behaviour
  • Personal and social competence, and
  • Intercultural understanding.

There are also the Cross-curriculum priorities of

  • Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures
  • Asia and Australia’s engagement with Asia, and
  • Sustainability

Curriculum term overviews for all areas of the curriculum are located on or near classroom doors for parents to peruse.  A weekly schedule outlining the major learning concepts and tasks for each curriculum area is also located on classroom doors. Please contact your child's teacher if you would like a copy of the overviews.
